Goal Setting 101

How to turn visions and intentions into actions and reality.

Goals are the cornerstone of success. A well-defined goal is intentional and purposeful. A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person envisions, plans, and commits to achieve. Realistic and inspiring goals also provide the framework for people to improve their health, fitness, and wellness. The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.

 

  • Wellness is the quality or state of being in good health or thriving towards a goal to be living your peak wellness in optimal health and well-being.
  • Wellness is the continuous active proves of becoming aware of the different areas in life, identifying the areas that need improvement, and then making choices that will facilitate attainment of a higher level of health and well-being.
  • Wellness is a process rather than a goal.
  • Wellness means developing attitudes and engaging in behaviors that enhance quality o life and maximize personal potential.
  • Wellness is based on seven components of wellness: (physical, spiritual, mental, intellectual emotional, social, environmental, and occupational)

Wellness Vision Plans will energize an individual when they become personal descriptions of what people believe they can do and be in the long term (one year, two years, five years, etc.).

What is my WHY?

  • Core Values: What are my core values and beliefs?
  • Results: What are the target areas I want to focus on?
  • Behaviors: What activities do I like/dislike?
  • Motivation: My motivators are…
    • What are you wishing for?
  • Strengths: What are a few of your top strengths?
  • Challenges: What challenges/obstacles have you encountered in the past?
  • Support: What supportive structures do you need to put in place to succeed?

 

SMART Goals that are written down are powerful statements that are clear and concise. 

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Attainable

R – Realistic

T–   Time Sensitive
